This is how we slept....
With little exception we find ourselves asleep very quickly once tucked into our hammocks. We have had beautiful weather and have not had to put up our coverings over our hammocks to protect us from the elements.
We had the most wonderful tour guide, Karen, who picked Aynsleigh to adorn the site of a female ( I think one of only four) buried here in the Cemetary. Our sweet guide, who has spent her life in this town, advocated for her street to be named after this female who lost her life a few months after D-Day when her Red Cross plane went down. She was affectionately known as " Donut Dolly", as she prepared spirits for the boys supplying gum, cigarettes and donuts to the troops. Donuts on D-Day will be our new family tradition as we give thanks to freedom and justice for all!
An interesting bit of information, all headstones are either a cross or Star of David. By 1944 religion was removed from dog tags as the US feared a Jewish military member could be placed in a concentration camp if taken prisoner. Because of this the authenticity of ones religion might not be correct.
Here is how I identified remains are marked...
We returned for Taps and the lowering of the flag at five thirty.
