Day 45 Bidarray to Ainhoa

Stay tuned for my notes on tonight as this was a special night and ended with a wonderful treat!
We woke this morning cold! Slightly afraid of what is to come, we are in the season and heading North.  We love sleeping outside and this pilgrim experience, but I do worry we will be having to take our nights indoors. With some exception, this is not what we prefer, as we like sleeping out!

We ate at a lovely restaurant, I approached them hoping I could order one large salad for six, this never would have occurred to me to do until about a week ago when a restaurant did it for three euros each. They didn't have that option so we got six salads for ten euros each and made small sandwiches before bed. Our salad was very good and had a small gazpacho beside it as a complement.

We warmed up quickly to what would be another great day!
Every morning starts with foot care...

Karsh and Tristan keeping rock piles alive!

A nice walk on the river..

A small break and look what appears...

gorgeous day,  I wish I could share a hundred pictures!

A cave...

Terrain, we worked hard!

Lunch on a rock...

The boys stayed ahead of us today.  Normally, I insist we stay close together but they were having some special times and together had a great pace. Lots of adventuring with caves etc...

We arrived to town feeling really good and satisfied from a great days walk. This town was precious and sweet. Nothing was open but one restaurant but there was a warmth in it. We had no idea where we were going to stay, it was late about seven and the town had a campsite that I was willing to go to as this is a convenience.

We walked out of town to it and a man sitting in a car hopped out of his car, I assume the owner of the campground. He had the hugest scowl on his face and if the sign was correct the campground had a one star rating (the worst, in fact, I have yet to see a one star rating). He got out of his car and said camping would be 8 euros each, that is 48 euros! We have paid that to be in bungalows complete with kitchen, linens and beds in posh towns so I don't know what this man was thinking! I was not about to pay that!

We turned around and thank goodness we did!
We ended up sleeping in the bell tower of the church. It had a perfect enclosed landing and was meant to be.

As we settled in a tabby cat came purring up the stairs and hung around us.
There was graffiti on a wall there and I don't want to spread rumors or ruin a young ladies reputation but the name Mimi was everywhere. I concluded this Mimi must get around and be the floozy of this town.
As we slept, our precious cat came back to us, it had the loudest motor purr. It mostly hung out with Aynsleigh which was really nice because she misses Schooner so much and he is my tabby cat who always sleeps with me. In fact, Aynsleigh always talks about when she gets home she is going to run straight to Schooner and sleep with him. Schooner is eighteen and we know our time with him might not be long though he appears as healthy as can be.

In the morning after a wonderful sleep we made our way over to the tourist office staffed by two wonderful ladies. I shared we had slept in the bell tower and mentioned the cat thinking the odds were low they would know of it but I loved it so much I hoped to be assured it had a home. They instantly smiled and said," Mimi!!!!!"

It ends up WE were sleeping with the town floozy. Mimi they shared had just been there with them and she has a spot on their desk and chairs. She is clearly loved! She was abandoned but it known by everyone. They went out to get her as they wanted a picture of us with her but they couldn't find her. Reichen came back with her and a photo session was had. In stormed a lady in the town who was thinking Reichen was stealing her, that's how much she is adored. I do have to say that the loving Mimi didn't seem to thrilled we had blown her cover and how we shared how she finds love all over the place, she acted like she had never met us before :)

Mimi we love you!!! You came when we needed you most and we kept saying she was heaven sent from our animals who have passed. It ends up Steve would share Sandy died one year ago today!
Mimi with her love 'em and leave 'em attitude...

Dog on the blog...

Day 44 St Etienne de Baigorry to Bidarray

I am so behind in blogging but we have had amazing days through the north Pyrenees and are so happy we did this walk along the GR 10. It has been challenging but absolutely beautiful, the absolute highlight of any hiking I have done. I think had we not had Le Puy under our belt we would not have been able to do this. This is some tough hiking, climbing and descents!

Typing quickly but we had a great sleep.
So thrilled Reichen urged me to go over the mountain and not take the road to make up time.

Eating trail mix, this is a norm they have requested, kid made with cereal nuts and things collected on the trail..,

With six of us we get to carry some luxuries in the food department...

The views were the best of the best...

Kiddos...

Dinner in Biddarry...

No dog on the blog today:(
But we have sheep...and one black one

And their sweet owner made them a special place as we walked by...
