We
left Aljezur a little later than planned, that seems to be our norm. I
ran some stuff to the post office that was just down the street. I
didn’t send home one item that was needed in my packing (that’s a good
thing in that I’ve learned to pack well), but what I did send home was a
lot of rocks ( which isn’t good as it proves I’m super crazy!). Our
heart rock was sent home, Yugioh cards we bought for Tristan, and more
rocks!!!!!
Ten pounds for a little over $100!!!!!! That price tag just might keep me behaving!
Our goal was to sleep out tonight!
Out under the stars in our hammocks. The threat of rain has been daily
so this presented an opportunity today when it appeared rain was not in
the forecast. We didn’t know where we would end up but we felt good. I
blundered again!!!!! Having had coffee yesterday up near the church I
saw a trekking route and just assumed it was “my” route... headed back
up to the church into the woods only to find out we are on a trail just not
OUR trail. Steve, from the states, noticed my error as he can track us
just about the same time I noticed. It was an easy fix... we were
heading North just on a more inner trail.
We found our way to Rogil
where a dear pharmacist sold me some ibuprofen and we chatted about travel! He
was the kind of person we’d bond with naturally out on the trail. Full
of life, smiles and most of all enthusiasm! My phone was dying, I’m
having a hard time fully charging my phone and my portable charger seems
to be dead. We ended up at a restaurant mentioned in my forum and the
staff bent over backwards to help me charge items, leave packs behind
and walk around the town.
We
left the town with about an hour and a half of sunlight left. We would
walk among trees and farm houses until we found three trees perfectly
placed just right for our hammocks! We could see farmhouses in the near
distance but we were free of them seeing us from the house. Up went the
hammocks, dinner was served and in the morning we would walk the
Odeceixe circuit, known to be possibly the most beautiful part of this
trail. We were sitting pretty to hike this circuit and get into Odeceixe
for lunch! Without doing the circuit we were a hop skip and a jump from
our location. Honestly how can one do the Fisherman trail without doing
these gorgeous circuits. Tomorrow,
once in Odeceixe there is no more thought process or confusion... the
trail splits you are either 100 percent on the Fisherman Way or 100
percent on the Historical Way. It takes the calculations, fear of
missing the circuit, fear of following the wrong signs ( which are ALL
beautifully marked) out of the equation.
Coffee....
We are “ off to see the wizard”, I find I say this everyday...
Just a reminder of this route.
Blue is Fisherman’s trail, and those little blue bubbles are the circuits! The are not to be missed because they are beautiful paths.
