We ended up at a gite last night with the option to camp. Many pilgrims were here, we were the only ones camping. We had access to the kitchen and bathrooms and this was wonderful! Typically to sleep in a gite with others in the room ( snoring and all) is about $13 euros in France ( cheaper on the Spanish side where gites are called auberges). We paid $5 euros each. Once we heard we had access to a kitchen ( complete with pots and pans) we made a mad dash , an absolute manic craze dash to the grocery where are hungry tummies had us purchase way more stuff then we needed.
I had previously typed up thus post and it appears to have disappeared so if you read this before it must have gone somewhere else on my blog :-(
We slept great! The stars were beautiful and Reichen set up my hammock where we had THREE side by side. I had Bronwyn on one side and Aynsleigh on the other. We were tight but I loved this situation best, I had such comfort knowing they were beside me.
We ate pizza, Spanish tortilla, pesto had hot chocolate and in the morning had more hot chocolate, yogurt and cereal.we really were a mess, totally over ate and realized we spent much to much only because we had a kitchen :-)
The kids loved it and really that is all that matters.
We got a late start washing clothes etc... And started our day at about 11!!!!
We walk late though so it doesn't matter. It was odd to see pilgrims stopping for the day when we only had two hours of walk behind us, many times they are stopping where there is one bar and nothing else so I really do prefer our method.
We are being told it is going to rain Saturday .
Great day!!!!
I think the pictures below are from yesterday and that I forgot to post them, this church was built at an old site, monastery, created by Charlemagne. This spot was very welcoming to pilgrims and a great resting area called Pimbo.
Picnic in Pimbo...
Dinner last night...
Look off in the distance...
The Pyreneese!!!!!!
We will be crossing them in a few days!!!!
Getting closer...
Today's walk...
Today we walked through private pastures ( a generous offering of farmers), they trust all pilgrims to open and close their gates, here is Aynsleigh doing just that...
Trail magic set out for pilgrims, figs!!!
While taking this panoramic picture of the Pyreneese Bronwyn let out a blood curdling scream as two bees stung her, one was still in her hair. She cried and cried but then starting crying that the bee was going to die... We put the bee on a gate post where it just walked in circles. I was glad to tell her that I saw it fly away...
Four French pilgrims ran to our aid with medicine...
Bronwyn helping a butterfly that was in the road...
It was so pretty...we spent atleast twenty minutes with this butterfly...
A handsome turkey...
