What a wonderful time in Cahors, this town loves its pilgrims! I loved how they had a small welcome center on the bridge coming in.
With our HOKAS, that I loved on my Norte, not sure if HOKA sold their business but the new Stinson is NOTHING like the old version. I suspect in sharing my HOKA experience from my Norte I have sold a hundred pairs for them sadly I can never recommend them again. These shoes are so different then they were three years ago, no comparison:(
I forgot if I shared as a few days have gone by where I have had no WIFI.
Our campsite was about 2 kilometers from the beginning of Cahors so today's distance in guidebooks didn't reflect our total. Funny we walked into Cahors three times, pilgrims never walk backwards but we have had to often due to staying at campsites.
We woke up having slept rather well!!! It didn't rain but the ground was soaking wet and they don't allow hammocks so sleeping not under the offered shelter was priceless!
Upon waking up a lovely Welsh lady approached me having noticed that I had been working on a blog last night. She asked if I would share it. She and her hubby were an adorable couple just getting ready to leave for home. Their dog, Hector , is dog on the blog today!
I wished we had gotten to speaking last night as I really liked them, their humor together was sweet.
Cahors has a few bridges and the most stunning would be the one leading out on our way to Santiago. There is a story that on thus bridge the original mason bargained with the devil thinking he'd never finish the bridge. He later deceived the devil upon changing his mind and the devil took revenge by constantly removing one stone from it. When reconstructed the new mason ( in centuries gone by) incorporated the devil into the bridge, unsuccessfully attempting to remove a stone. I hope my pictures show it.
The climb out of Cahors was huge!
We did it! Even though Aynsleigh's stride was shorter than some of steps, have I shared she is a trooper!!!!
Cahors behind us...
Today would be a splendid day for walking!!!! Though rain would threaten us all day and night and umbrellas would come out!
We stopped for lunch at a wonderful gite ( place to sleep) , where the volunteer came out and spoke with us and gave the kids fruit. She was so sweet. The name of the gite is la Domaine des Mathieux and if I understood her correctly they have volunteers that help the disabled do the way. I had tears in my eyes and would love to join this group.
Would recommend this beautiful spot for those that pass through Cahors.
We found this adorable fella there while he ate, I hope his trident antennae show up in this picture as they really caught our attention.
REICHEN and I both prayed for us to be lead to a place where at least we could hang our mines out of the rain...
As we did this appeared in the sky and we both agreed we were assured a safe harbor for the night...
We ended up ( second only to the teepee) having the most amazing experience. There was an open old chapel left open for pilgrims and we would sleep around the alter. As we approached we heard a lot of energetic kids and a donkey !!!! It was our Swiss family!!!! A mom traveling with her three young boys and two donkeys. We had a brief meeting way back in Conques at the Abbey. These are some energetic kiddos, so cute... I won't dare post the picture for their privacy but the picture is priceless. The five year old went to bed uncontrollably crying and the mom gathered all three of those young rambunctious boys around her, pulled out a rather large book and started reading. It was the sweetest image!!!!
Tonight we would meet a young gal traveling from Hungary to Santiago, this chapel would be shared by all of us!!!!
My phone literally lost all battery the second I got the picture of the mom reading to her kids!
Dog on the blog, Hector!!!!
