STAGE SIXTEEN: Cuerres to La Isla

What a wonderful way to start my morning!!!!
Anyone heading out on the Norte should make note of this jewel of a place.
Since I got lost and actually headed into town incorrectly I missed an old Medieval bridge and backtracked to see it. The couple who own this auberge have made a chapel in their backyard and it is open to all pilgrims who pass by.
The boys and I had plans to meet in La Isla with an auberge near the Ocean.
I had a wonderful walk today...met the boys in Ribadesella where I'd grab coffee and try to catch up on emails and the blog. You can feel the excitement of Holy Week!!!! I would go to the market grab some food and eat out on the beach and Skype with the family.
Benjamin said the two dogs stayed with him for over an hour this morning when the police stopped him he of course had to say they were not his dogs. He told the police where the dogs came from and atleast ine had a collar but he thinks only a collar....of course the rest of my trip would wonder about these pups.
Today was very hot and seemed like a long day but I did stay in Ribadesella for hours. On my way out of town I ran into the Canadian couple, " just friends", who have tons of time, walking slowly, and even tent camping. We would walk for awhile till I realized my destination was longer than theirs, with that I took off suspecting I would never see them again.
I breaked in La Vega, small spot on the beach that I imagine is hopping in the summer.....great spot to sit out and enjoy a quiet beach. Leaving La Vega would really throw a wrench in my mood. I would walk an old stone path from medieval times that was complete mud and possibly animal excrement from medieval times. Heading to La Isla I too would follow a marked path that diiffered ( I was told by Benjamin) then the nicely drawn image in our book. this path was all mud and my feet were buried. I entered La Isla exhausted, shoes heavy with mud and made eye contact with the boys who were already cleaned up , relaxing and enjoying drinks. They motioned me to go in the bar but my shoes were way to muddy....they held my backpack while I took my credential ran thru town to find the gal who registers you and checked into the auberge. it appeared full, about thirty beds and ONE bed remained. A gentleman removed his guitar from it and it was literally right up to his bed, no space would separate us  ....
At this point I really just wanted to get to the bar with the boys for dinner so I didn't even make my bed...ran back down to join them and had a great simple night sitting there at the table. Two Spanish guys were at the bar and we all left to run back for our 2200 curfew, we a bit later than them.  I immediatly realized I could not without alot of turmoil make my bed, crawl up onto the top bunk quietly with 30 people already sleeping so I made the decision to sleep in the kitchen where an extra bed was....and I think I had the best spot in the house:)
The yiung Spainish guys stayed up and we chatted, they are on bikes and appear to be having a blast!

For those preparing to do the Norte make sure you take the Camino Real route heading to La Isla, this will be a stretch of some of the most beautiful coastal views and is a turn off from a walk on the highway....this is a must and can easily be missed!!!!
