This stage was simply amazing, like yesterday on the coast a great part of it if you chose to take the time to enjoy it. Today was my longest walk of this Camino and pretty certain I did about 43 kilometers.
Staying at Javier's place with his mom and dad there beaming over their son and what he is doing was a great experience. Javier strongly recommended a private auberge in Cuerres and I set thst for my goal. Benjamin and I would start out our day together ... At one point we went up onto the cliffs overlooking the ocean and a group of horses ran thru an area that appeared to be wild but was not, we both I think thought thst was treat. The famous Bufone of the area did not blow while we were there but you could hear the water underneath us in its cavity and it sounded like a cannon. Evidently tide has to be at a certain level....
We went to Llanes, a nice town for a lunch there in one of the town squares, it was packed with people coming from Church and just seemed to be a place and time ( Holy Week) when all of thr kids were dressed up in their special outfits.
A huge hilight for me was a walk on the cliffs and an arch ruin that I decided to take the minutes to go and look at, off to the right was a stunning view of rocks in the water and small islands....I found this view to be one of my favorites.
Benjamin was convinced we did something wrong in our walk, honestly I think if we did it is was got me to that arch and I did not mind, he has his map and agenda in hand often and admits to having the mentality that ticks away each kilometer while I think I am more for wanting to make sure i see what shoukd be seen and get in before sundown which is about 8:40. We decided to walk our own pace in the last three or so hours which on the camino is a necessary thing to do, it is ALWAYS appreciated to walk on your own, to seek time on your own and know what is best for you.
My priority for some reason was to get to Cuerres...
It started to look like I might not get there by sundown and i got worried. At one point my book says to go thru a gate, up to a church....it failed to mention that gate was a pasture with cows and bulls. I took a picture thrilled the were eating when I walked by.
It would be late but i would find out why I was so called to this auberge, a wonderful night!!!! This auberge is a jewel, a retired German couple had their retirement dream to start an auberge on the Camino and when they looked for property to do so they found this spot and the path literally walks infront of their home. This night was so special to me, this couple will forever be in my Camino heart and special to me. I got lost getting yo their home ( somewhere I made a mistake), but many kind towns people showed me the way. When I came a knocking the greatest smiles welcomed me into their home, I was alone and treated like a long lost friend.
They made me a wonderful dinner, complete with a huge salad ( my usual choice), and the bed and space was so personal and cozy. Manfred, the hubby, stayed with me while I ate, a retired professor so we had a wonderful conversation! In the morning they would invite me to eat breakfast with them,a great breakfast and from the window I would see Benjamin and Sebastian go by!!!! I ran out to tell them I would see them soon!!! Benjamin who seems to practical to have a oet and does not seem too interested in them was walking with TWO dogs that adopted him!!!!!
