We leave Friday for Morocco and then on for 2½ more months in Europe hiking.
We leave this Friday (3/2/2018)
I had sent out an email to friends about our Fall of 2016 Camino. If you received the email you showed an interest in my family trek through France and Spain. Possibly even an interest in me helping you plan such a trip with your family or kids. It was a hike done totally on foot, carrying everything that we needed for 3 ½ months on our back (the first two weeks were spent in a rented car traveling through Northern France). That trek was done with five of my six children (ages 17,15,13,11,9) and my hubby and special needs son cheering us on from home! We hiked at least 1,100 miles totally on foot for that trip.
On March 1st my whole family, all eight of us, take off from DC to Morocco, which is Number 1 on my bucket list!!!!
We will be there 2 ½ weeks and then all the boys fly home and “just the girls”, fly to Lisbon, Portugal, to start hiking what we estimate to be about the same distance as our previous Camino trip.
This one has something extra special that I have pieced together. The girls who are now 12 and 10, will actually be celebrating their birthday in Morocco (two days apart).
There is a “new” route getting some attention in Europe for being one of the most beautiful walks in Europe called the “Roto Vincentina”. It is a 9-13 day hike in Southern Portugal. We plan
to do it in 9 and to walk what is called “The Fisherman’s Trail”, which is on cliffs and we will be staying many nights in “surf hostels” as the area is known for its fabulous surfing.
REI is advertising this trip for about 9 days for $3,000 plus dollars a person (not including flight)…we will do it for probably $100 a day for all three of us…
From there we head back to Lisbon (Sintra) and will start our hike North to Santiago on the old “Camino de Santiago route”.
Upon arriving in Santiago about a month later I have pieced together some wonderful walks to keep us busy for about five more weeks.
· The Rota Vincetina
· The Camino Portuguese from Lisbon
· The walk to the Ocean, Finesterre and Muxia
· The Camino Faros (the Lighthouse way)
· The Inglais (Camino to Santiago)
· The San Salvador route
· The Primitivo route
I have no Facebook (never have), no tweeting, no social media…but I do blog only my extended vacations, no fears of hearing about much else…
So I will be using the same blog.
As always willing to help anyone put together such a trip.
