Day 58 Laredo to pilgrim haven Guemes (one of the heartbeats of the Norte hospitality)

We got out of Laredo at noon, had it been another minute I probably would have forfeited the day as I knew I wanted our destination to be Guemes! Guemes by most peoples standards is the best auberge on the Norte, there is a spirit there that has been years in the making. The heartbeat of Guemes is Ernesto, who at one time traveled the World providing for those in need. He has built an oasis on the Camino with a whole community helping him and a World of pilgrims that love him dearly.
Here is a picture of the restaurant porch we slept at last night, I assumed closed for the season but it opened in our last hour or two there. The owner was so nice to us, gave the kids treats and tried to convince us to take a soccer ball with us.

Finally we reached Guemes, I talked for days about Buiel, a huge lovable dog there, a friend of all pilgrims. I did suggest he might not still be alive and sadly we arrived on Monday and he died Thursday before. This was sad news. Guemes the next day woukd welcome their 10,000 thousand pilgrim of 2016. We were pilgrims 10,025 a 10,030. Ernesto took a great interest in our family, I guess there is no need to say that a family with five children walking for three months is not usual, totally self supported walking every foot with their backpack. He was pretty facinated with Aynsleigh and asked her to write in a book that every year he has translated and professionally binded to join the library. The biggest complement came when he said he is going to write about us and it will be placed there near his fireplace in the community room, an area where inspirational pilgrims grace the wall.
We had the community dinner sitting around talking and were super thrilled to find Lisa and William here!
