Today would be a walk in the rain...I honestly feel like my first real rain experience to date. Sure I have had some sprinkles, needed to suit up and put the cover on my pack but today it rained pretty much all day...it seemed so fitting and I LOVED walking in the rain!!!!
The day would be another along the beaches, within an hour I was on the coastline for a spectacular walk! On the beach in Somo I could see three pretty large carriers out in the water, two dogs sat side by side in a treasured position looking out into the water. A surfer was on the beach dressing and started to head off the beach I was really suprised that the two dogs did not follow him. They continued to stare out at the water until I approached and one, a terrier resembling my terrier, Barnacle, approached me. He was really cautious he wanted some loving but also seemed to fear I might snatch him. The ither dog resembling a small black lab wanted nothing to do with me and kept barking to his friend to becareful of me....he really was trying to tell him to be careful this was the crazy dog lady sure to throw you in her rucksack and take you back to the States. I thought of Shrek when Shrek tells donkey, " it's a trap....pancakes in the woods". I looked at the terrier wondering how it got here, was it lost? Why did it stare so anxious out to the sea, wanting love but also in high alert. I took another picture of him and noticed his pretty collar and a choppy unprofessional hair cut but a haircut none the less. It was obvious he was loved but why out here anxious by himself. I found it difficult to walk on always to wonder about this dog....and then he ran full of excitement to the shoreline where out of nowhere his Papa appeared with surf board. We had a great conversation, thankfully hus English was perfect and I told him I knew his dog was loved, he admitted he cut half of his hair yesterday and had no time to finish....the other dogs owner was evidently out there surfing too. The dogs name is Kuquay, and I wished I had asked what it meant as we had a neighbor who had a dog with that same name....
A ferry would get me to my final destination tonight, Santander....a large town full of diversity. I would grab a gelato that would be finished as I climbed the stairs to the pilgrims auberge. My weather has been gorgeous this trip BUT for the first time I was cold...my socks and shoes wet....and my other pair of socks still wet. I had no choice but to visit the town in my shower shoes (ballerina style crocs), no socks... The sweet auberge lady went around the corner of the check in place and handed me a oair of socks....I hugged her and kissed her cheek, a very welcomed offer.
Tonight three pilgrims would have this place to themselves, me....a German guy named Thomas....and.........the lady who took my bed:)
